Obituary submitted by
Pleasant Frederick Barnhart, 70, son of original pioneers of Kittitas Valley, died Wednesday night, March 28 [1951], in a Pasco Hospital. He had made his home in Pasco since 1917.
Barnhart was a veteran railroad man. He had been employed by the Northern Pacific since 1906 until retirement three years ago. Death followed illness of three months.
He was born here [Ellensburg] on October 7, 1880, and lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Barnhart, on the family farm in the Fairview District until he began his railroading career. In 1906, he went to live in Pasco, returned here for several years, then went back to Pasco in 1917 to make his home. His mother died here last spring.
Barnhart was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Christian Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Locomotive Enginemen and Firemen.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Olive Barnhart; two sons, Frederick G. Barnhart, San Diego, Calif., and Harold F. Barnhart, Ellensburg; a daughter, Mrs. J. W. Ninneman, Troy, Mont.; three brothers Dr. Jess B. Barnhart, Modesto, Calif., and Albert and Ernest Barnhart of Ellensburg; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Schnebly and Mrs. Dorsey Schnebly of Ellensburg and Mrs. Max McKenzie of Yakima; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, seven nephews and five nieces.
Funeral services will be held at the Honeycutt-Evenson Funeral Chapel in Ellensburg, Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Fred Towne will officiate. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery here.
