The Concord Community is located 11 miles north of Palestine, Anderson Co., Texas on county road 404. The community consist of the Concord Baptist church, the Concord Cemetery and families who live in the area. In the late 1840’s, three Fitzgerald families and a single man came to Anderson County, and purchased property on the headwaters of Mound Prairie Creek. They were the first settlers to remain in the community for an extended period of time. They were joined in the late 1850’s by the Gaines family, the Hathcocks and Hardings. Soon after the Civil War other families began moving into the area such as the Malones, Herbroughs, Wards, Funderburks, Kelleys, and Lunsfords. The church has also had an impact on the name of the community. For years, the community bore the name of Fitzgerald. The post office which operated from 1888-1905 had the name Fitzgerald. After the post office closed, the community gradually ceased to be called Fitzgerald and instead came to be called Concord after the name of the church.

Sept. 2002 Survey by Elda Gatlin Parrish, Bob & Reta Kelley, Winfred & Vera Ward Green I am sure we have some errors but I have attempted to check each headstone against the printout. If you find an error, please call it to my attention.        Many graves are still marked with iron ore rocks placed there by their loving relatives years ago. Some of the rocks have been replaced with markers, some have been removed - there are many lost grave sites.Families have stated that their ancestors are buried in this cemetery but there are no markers to tell us where. There aresome names on the early surveys and now we cannot find the markers. Many funeral home markershave become unreadable.  The old platt map has helped us locate some graves - 481 identified graves,numerous unmarked and unidentified There is a web site online that states they did a survey in 2003 Oct. 2005 - all burials through Oct 2005 have been entered.
