Rules For Subscribers

Rule 1.  Before calling anyone, take down your receiver 
and be sure that no one else is using the line.

Rule 2.  When talking through central ring off when through.  
When talking on your own line or when talking to central, 
do not ring off.

Rule 3.  All toll messages are charged to the phone where 
business originates.

Rule 4.  No non-subscriber is permitted to use a phone 
without pay.  If a party, who is not a subscriber, 
wishes to use your phone, charge them 10 cents for each 
time they use the phone as this amount will be charged against you.

Rule 5.  The use of obscene or profane language over the 
phone is forbidden.

Rule 6.  No person is entitled to the use of the line more 
than five minutes when others wish to use the lines.

Rule 7.  No person is permitted to interfere with others 
using the line.  Anyone disregarding this rule will have 
their phone removed at once.

Rule 8.  When you are not using the phone let receiver 
hang on the hook, the large end down.

Rule 9.  No call will be answered during an electrical storm.

In order to insure satisfactory service to all, these 
rules must be enforced and the Company reserves the right 
to remove the phone of anyone who willfully disobeys them.

Do not attempt to engage the operator in conversation, 
as they cannot attend to business and visit with subscribers 
while on duty.  Their time belongs to all subscribers 
alike and it requires their constant attention to 
facilitate promptness in answering calls.  This is one 
of the reasons why visitors are not desired in the exchange 
except on business.  The use of the switchboard by unauthorized 
parties is strictly forbidden.

One long ring calls Gann Valley on all lines except No. 7.  
On line No. 7, four short rings calls Gann Valley.
